Biography and beginnings
Iker Casillas Fernández was born in Móstoles, Spain on May
20, 1981.
The son of José Luis Casillas and María del Carmen Fernández
González, Casillas was born and raised in Móstoles. While studying at I.E.S:
Iker began to develop his soccer skills, participating in small matches and
playing with his friends from the neighborhood. At the age of ten, he was
observed by the Real Madrid coaches during the tournament held by the club
every year, they decided to recruit him for the youth category, in which he
began to play in the 1990/91 season.
He quickly showed his skills standing out among the players
for his agility and great reflexes. Thanks to his talent, he managed to rise
quickly in the category, being called up to Real's first team in the 1997-1998
season, after being crowned champion of the U16 Europe as a member of the youth
team.
